The Tom Marr Show
Weekdays, 9 a.m.–Noon on Talk Radio 680 WCBM Baltimore — and a show that kept leaving the studio.
“The Tom Marr Show” aired weekdays from 9 a.m. to Noon on Talk Radio 680 WCBM in Baltimore. Three hours, five days a week, for the better part of two decades.
The slot
Nine to noon is the shift that decides a talk station’s morning. At WCBM it also carried a structural job: Marr was the station’s lead-in to The Rush Limbaugh Show. In radio terms that is not a small assignment — the host in front of a nationally syndicated block hands over the audience the network programme inherits, and is judged on it.
He was not only a local act. After returning to WCBM in 1997 on a long-term contract, Marr also hosted a nationally syndicated weeknight programme on the WOR Radio Network out of New York City, and filled in nationally for Bob Grant and Mark Levin. The morning show was the anchor; the network work ran alongside it.
A show that travelled
What separates the programme from the format it belonged to is how often it left the studio. Marr broadcast from more than fifteen international locations — Israel, Iraq, Cuba (Guantanamo Bay), Scotland and Bosnia among them. In July 2006 he spent three weeks embedded with Coalition Forces in Iraq, Kuwait and Qatar, filing from the field rather than commenting on it from Baltimore.
What his own website looked like
Between 2003 and 2005 the Internet Archive captured tommarr.com as Marr and his producers ran it. It is a period piece, and a good one: Times New Roman and Georgia serif type, red and blue links on a light background, a bordered portrait, a simple centred layout under a WCBM 680 masthead, and an italic serif line across the top — “Talk Radio At Its Best-”.
The tribute you are reading is built deliberately in that spirit: the same serif, the same broadcast red and ink blue on cream, the same framed portrait. It is a design decision, not a reproduction — the original pages live at the Internet Archive, linked below.
